The event

The Elite London is described as London’s combined lifestyle showcase, bringing together five luxury events at one exclusive location – highlighting the best in aviation, cars, property, golf and premium lifestyle products. Exhibitors include the likes of Airbus Helicopters UK, Bloom Fine Art, Lord & Lama and Hilton Vilamoura Golf Resort & Spa. The annual two-day event is held at Wycombe Air Park – encompassing a hangar for exhibitors, as well as the apron surrounding it – and attracts visitors from all four corners of the globe.

The brief

Time Marquees has been providing marquee hire to The Elite London for the last three years – saving the day when the event’s current supplier was unable to fulfil their requirements. In 2022 the organisers of the event sought a new marquee company with two key requirements: quality and reliability.

Fast forward three years and Time Marquee was once again relied on to provide marquee hire for the event now in its tenth year.

After an initial consultation where we discussed the requirements of the event in detail, we conducted a site visit at Wycombe Air Park in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. In line with the luxury theme of the event, The Elite wanted a host of marquees that were aesthetically pleasing while providing practical cover and protection from all eventualities – sun, rain and wind. The client also needed a level of flexibility from us in terms of the number of marquees and equipment needed as the requirements for the event were dynamic.

The challenge

The challenge for the Time Marquees team was the fact the event was being held on a working airfield. In addition to time requirements in terms of setting up, there were health and safety considerations for both our team and the airfield team. The final challenge was the wind – again, as a working airfield we had to account for the sometimes extreme windy conditions as a result of the uplift from aircraft landing and taking off.

As a result, the structures had to be adequately secured to be completely safe and withstand the wind.

The solution

Drawing on our experience of the work we’d done for The Elite in the past, as well as for other customers with similar challenges, we delivered a solution that perfectly met the event’s requirements.

We worked with the airfield and event company on the logistics and timings of setting up the structures, as well as dismantling them after the event. We ensured we had a large, highly trained team on site during construction, and on the Sunday after the event to make sure we could get the structures removed as quickly as possible to allow the airfield to return fully to business as usual.

Clear communication was crucial – we provided comprehensive briefs to our team, as well as the event and airfield teams.

We supplied seven marquees, as well as furniture inside the hangar to create a welcoming coffee lounge. This included our ever-popular pagodas with their eye-catching high peaked roofs, and a number of differently sized clearspan marquees from luxury, high-class fully lined structures with boarded floors, to unlined practical spaces for registration and briefing.
